Why is this so safe? We don't depend on old-fashioned magnetic tape to preserve your data. Your computer document, picture or email record is chopped into hundreds of separate pieces. We make sure there are always copies of each piece of your data on three geographically separate computers. It doesn't matter if one of our computers breaks down. Automatically - without the need for a technician to react - the remaining computers in our system cooperate to rebuild the third piece somewhere else. The main copy of your data will always exist as pieces across our computers and can be read from any computer at any time (providing you have your USB stick and its keys). Your work computer or laptop can be stolen or destroyed in a fire, but all of your data is immediately available to you by plugging your stick into the next available computer. We can never lose your data.
Why is this so secure? This is a revolutionary change for data storage technology; it is a completely new way to store your data. If you follow the arrows on the chart, you can see how this works. Your computer document, picture or email record is chopped into hundreds of separate pieces. Each piece is scrambled and delivered randomly to a bunch of computers across the globe. A special key that is stored exclusively on your USB stick is used to reverse this process. The key will tell your computer where to go to find each piece, how to unscramble it and set the order of all the pieces to reform your original computer file. They would have to go to each of our storage computers and look at all the pieces and guess which one of billions of indistinguishable pieces belongs to your file, figure out how to descramble them without your key and try to fit them back together.
